In more ways than not, I say yes to the above question.hehehe..

The motorcar was invented some while back. Since then we have enjoyed an ease of travelling unequalled in history. We have also become immeasurably lazier. We drive the car everywhere even to the corner grocery shop a stone’s throw away. Consequently, our whole physical condition suffer. We become overweight, under-excercised and prone to multitude of ailments. Besides physical laziness, mental laziness can occur too. Before the invention of the electronic calculator, we have to add, subtract, multiply and divide by simply using a pencil and a piece of paper but now we could perform all the calculating by simply pressing some keys. Thus our mental ability atrophied. Other inventions like television and fast food also contribute to our laziness.. There are signs that newer inventions will invade our lives soon to take over most of our daily chores. Maybe the day will arrive when almost everything will be done for us and we will be left with lot of free time to do the things we like to do, if there are things left to do.hahahaha laugh.gif ..

so, what's your opinion guys rolleyes.gif ?

I would say that all the stuffs you've just said are totally ridiculous. I wouldn't agree on any single points you've said. laugh.gif

Oh well, lets start shall we?

The motorcar was invented mainly to ease people burden. Are you expecting people nowadays to cycle to or still walk to works ?

Answering about some people who likes to drive THEIR car to corner of grocery shop, it's totally not our rights to justify someone to be a lazy person by just seeing he or she drives even though just by seeing them. Another example such as a mother who sends her daughter to school by car, in fact the school were just in front of their house. How do we say if it was a rainy day? Oh, use an umbrella and still walk would solve the problem.. rightttttttttttt... It's peoples' rights to do anything what they want.

Talking about calculator, it's about easing our brain workload. Don't overload your brain by simple mathematics calculations. You have the calculator for that. Doing such things won't make your brain to rust or easy to say as useless. Use your brain to solve more complex equations that a calculator still incapable to solve. Hey, I bet you didn't use calculator in your Additional Mathematics but you still able to get an A right??? OMG!! You're a genius!!

Talking about exercise, over-sized people.. can't you see that is what is our government trying to do. To inculcate our people to exercise regularly. Its just simple routines. Three times a week, in minimum 20 minutes to be consumed in each exercise is what being recommended by experts.

Again, you need to understand my dear, what does things that ease people and what aren't. Read more, study more. rolleyes.gif

You cannot deny new technology my dear, its just happen. Whether you notice it or not, soon or later the mechanism will come to you by itself. We don't ask the SMS technology to be "implanted" in our hand phones don't we? If not, we won't be wasting most of our pocket money/salary by reloading our credits and feeding those tel cos companies. This is technology, and technology costs money.

Oh my Lord! What does fast food has gotten to now?? Laziness?? Do you wonder for once why does it's called 'fast food' anyway? Most people nowadays are now in rush and doesn't have such time to prepare those 'home cooked food'. Live with it-lah. And I am also sure that most of us nowadays already noticed on how can fast food can be bad to ours health, but still some people insists of consuming it. What to do? Ban all the KFC and McDonald's kiosks? It's their mentality that justify themselves IMHO.

Again, I repeat, human inventions doesn't invented to make humans to be more lazy. It is to ease people works. Its just they are still some people who doesn't willing to appreciate what they had and to choose what is the need and what aren't. Enough said.

It's safer to drive a car in rainy day instead of riding motorcycle or cycling a bicyle or even walking by ourselves. However, rainy day is out of our control my dear; it is not happen every day isn’t it? So, the situation is invalid in this context.

Maybe my point was not clear enough. Does solving simple mathematical problems caused our brain overworked overload and fatigue??? Oh my dear, don’t you know, a normal human just use only less than 10% of its mind ability. I wonder how simple mathematical questions ‘easing our brain workload’ can do. Did you know, the more we use our brain to think, the more it will grow and the higher ability to memorise we gain? It is undeniable that I have to use the calculator in solving complicated Mathematical problems in order to get the answer INSTANTLY especially if it is about trigonometry which consists sinus, co sinus and tangent. We still can solve the problem even if there is no calculator but it takes time. Ok, let’s say if a survey is held to see how well students nowadays can calculate simple Mathematical problems which consists basic calculation without calculator help, I am sure most of them failed to complete the test on time. You know why? Because most of them used to calculator even to solve 2+2 or 2x2 or even 4x0. They depend too much to the calculator and caused their mental ability atrophied. However, it is undeniable that in this modern and progressive world, calculator is essential in business and construction field. For example, to get the appropriate calculation in order to build firmly fixed skyscrapers, we need calculator to the job. What am I trying to convey is usage of calculator by human in solving even simple problems has atrophied their mental ability.

I don’t get your point here. Did you know even you walk a short distance away to open your house gate rather than pressing button on remote control to open automatic gate in your house, you have successfully burn lot of calories in your body. As the government knows that most of Malaysians are hardly to have exercise, the R&R in highways are now built in hilly place. You know why? Because they want people to 'climb' the stairs and walk more before they reach the restaurants or toilet. Experts have been ordered to give us alternative way to have exercise. For example, use stairs rather than elevator or lift and park your car a long distance from your workplace in parking lot as you need to walk more.

I don’t deny the benefit that we obtain by the technology growth, but the new inventions somehow caused us to become lazy to do things that we actually can do by our own. In one prespective, SMS facilitate us to communicate with others in silent communication. But don’t you notice from billions of SMS sent by mobile users in our country how many of them are really favourable? Actually we have spend more on SMS rather than making calls but as it happens gradually, so we don’t notice the fact!

Hm… It is not just because of time saving my dear. It is because of laziness too. If you are hungry and not doing well in cooking I bet you prefer fast food like instant mee or fried chicken sold at KFC outlet rather than attempting to cook a dish which takes more time and more energy to make it…don’t you?

Yes, they are not invented to make humans become lazier than before but we can’t escape the fact that new inventions actually have pampered us too much which at last make us too depending on them.

Enough said. tongue.gif

How simply can you say that situation is not a valid form in terms of context? In fact, situation is the most important factor that one's need to to make sure of first before doing anything. If you were to do an event or travel on the day, weather is the most important thing. Sometimes success or failure of an events relies much on the situation (weather) of the day. Speaking of control, nowadays they are technology that can predicts weather. Or yourself can look up in the sky and see for yourself those cloudy clouds, would you still say that soon wouldn't be raining? I don't know-lah if you don't watch any news at all. smile.gif

Still, in your words, you cannot prove anything that shows driving a car being the cause of one to be lazy. So your text is the one who is invalid in the context.

Actually, it does. Our brain needs energy to perform its work.

QUOTE
Your brain cells need two times more energy than the other cells in your body. Neurons, the cells that communicate with each other, have a high demand for energy because they're always in a state of metabolic activity. Even during sleep, neurons are still at work repairing and rebuilding their worn out structural components.

We should not overload our brain by doing constant EASY work over and over again. That's why technology came in first place, to ease our work and burden to what technology couldn't do, yet. Using calculator to calculate simple equations doesn't make us to look stupid. I am personally myself sure in the last year SPM exam you also used calculator when answering your Additional Mathematics and some Science papers right?

There are reasons for our government to strain the ruling to able students to use calculators in exam. They will for surely not allow students to use it if they know those calculators will cause the future leaders to be LAZY, right? laugh.gif

I am sure you did well in your exam last time in those paper right? In limited time in answering those questions, we really depends on the mechanism to solve our questions problem. With those brain storming, stress building up and we depends on both mechanism, brain and calculator. We depends on both thing at the same time. Accept that fact.

That is an assumption, not a survey. You're denying the fact that technology is not primary reason what makes us lazy. They are still others factor that can take place in what make our species to become lazy. Accept that fact.

I am sure everyone in fact you and I know that when we sweat, we burns those calories. It's just the matter of making our society understand and take major steps in doing what we doesn't like the most, to exercise. You need to understand also that this is not a problem in our society but actually a world issues. Its just about educating our people on the needs of exercising and enjoy a healthy life. Please, agree me on this! rolleyes.gif

Yes, yes and yes again! smile.gif Pampering but still doesn't make us as society to be lazy for using the new technology and mechanisms..

Speaking about normal human and using of 10% energy... we are truly are as what you said, normal human. Accept that as a fact. Einstein, Da Vinci, Plato etcs they are also yet another normal individual human. Accept that fact as what we are truly are and live with it.

If you were to become a doctor one day, just be what a doctor should be. Advising your patients to exercise more and live a healthy life is what a superb doctor would do. It is not subject as a what a doctor suppose to be, but that is also a duty as a citizen to advise others when one does wrong.

As for me, an ordinary man in an ordinary world, I will live a healthy life and try to educate as much people as I can in the importance of a healthy life. Every people in this world plays a major part in running the cycle and making our world as a healthy environment place, although that is another dream of what unpredictable thing that we hope and we hope everyday in our lives.

Look the world as what it is, not like what you want it to be.

Think.

Thank you.

well..
i dont suppose that the modern inventions make us lazy.
As a matter of fact, the modern inventions themself made us more into doing one thing as the modern inventions made all the works and doing in the world easier.

It`s like this..when i have a car or any transportation, i might go to the grocery stores myself or to the mosques more often because it is easy to reach there. Yes , i am lazy to walk but the ease created by the modern inventions made me less lazy in other way.Got my points? no?!..Well, it`s not my problem..

izwan, i think you cannot say that all the hijaulaut said is ridiculous because she/he made her/his points but at the same time we cannot say that the modern inventions made us totally lazy as they accually are the reason for doing something.

People who use modern inventions are moving forward people and i don't suppose they got the tittle 'moving forward' by being lazy.

Both Izwan and hijaulaut are correct but in different points of view.

p/s:i don`t know whether i made my piont clear but better worth trying blush.gif

Actually, I can and I am assure of that. laugh.gif I believe that all people have the rights to say what they think of things they like and what they don't, till they might or may breach the rights they are bound to. I just want to hear what Miss Green Sea wanting to say more. tongue.gif

Gosh! Isn't this a great day for a jogging? Enhances by the breezing air after last night's rain.

Thank you for replying though Mr Hero! Better get rich or die trying.. rolleyes.gif

To me, it depends to ourselves.

Calculator.
Do we really need to use it? DEPENDS on the problem. I wonder if someone still want to use their brain to calculate a problem in mathemathic of course, such as 10000000 - 0.234234 * 12395.12556. We would use it if we think that the problem is hard to us to solve it in a second. As Green Sea's said, we will gain the higher ability to memorise something. Does it useless? To me, i prefer to solve any mathemathics problem without using calculator even I am not expert in mathematic. (just got B4 in SPM, hate graph question because I hate drawing)

I took few hours to make those posting before you. IMO choosing the right word is always important because sometimes the thing that we want to convey is simple. But, some people often tries to use "complex" English or those bombastic words that our teachers used to teach us those old days while aback in class..because by using such words/terms we'll get extra marks! laugh.gif

Or perhaps maybe, want to show the examiners/people that they have broad knowledge of the language. blush.gif

IMHO the main principle thing about language is that we follow the basic/main rules and making sure other people understands what we're trying to convey and point our opinions out.

We need to understand that we cannot simply judge people by telling they are lazy simply after seeing them 'benefiting' the technology by doing such things just as what Miss Green Sea had told us earlier. Simply, by general observation. laugh.gif

'Practice make perfect'

IMHO = In my humble opinions

modern invention is a bless..
so we have to use it properly..
bless in life only comes once..if it's been wasted...then nothing left..
it cannot be at the fault...it all depends on a person himself...
all we have to do is accept the new era, new invention from day to day, and make up our own mind..
gegule
lets start today.

1. walk to the near shop, lets say 1km
2. avoid using lift/escalator if you are only want to go to the next level of the building.
3. buy a bicycle.
4. set in your mind that walking is good for your heart.
slier
ya im agree with u gegule...
