Let’s start with the order of adjectives.

This sentence below does not sound correct because of the peculiar arrangement of the adjectives.

They saw a Malay, teenage, petite, beautiful girl.

Before, I give the guide of positioning adjectives, who would like to correct the sentence by arranging the adjectives in the proper order?

This what happens if I didn't pay attentions in English classes back in those days at school. I couldn't remember myself at all learning about adjectives, "peculiar arrangements" stuffs and "positioning adjectives". sad.gif

Oh anyway, this is my humble so-so arranged adjectives in order that you requested. Feel free to make corrections to it if you think it's inappropriate or wrong. laugh.gif

Wrong.

Correct. Roughly the order of adjectives is:

OSACOM

1st Opinion adjectives(beautiful, wonderful, clever, comfortable)
2nd Shape adjectives-1 size (big, small)
2-length (long, tall, short)
3-shape (round, square, fat, thin)
4- width (wide, narrow)

3rd Age adjectives(young, new, old)
4th Colour adjectives (red, green, yellow, black)
5th Material (or Type) adjectives (leather, silk, gold, industrial, agricultural, commercial)

Try to arrange following adjectives in the proper order.

1.wooden, square, small table
2. cane, lovely, chair
3. alkaline, long-lasting, expensive batteries.

Oops, I wasn’t noticed tilll today that I have made mistake on typing the words!
I’ve typed Alkaline, long-lasting, expensive batteries in my previous post.
It should be like this-->alkaline batteries, long-lasting, expensive
No wonder I found no correct answer for no. 3. So, my dear friends, I beg your pardon for my error. I hope all of you will accept my humble apologies...

Back to the questions that I gave before. Actually you just need to ARRANGE the adjectives in the proper order only and not neccessary to build sentence using the words.

The answers:

1. small, square, wooden table

Small--> Shape adjective (size)
Square--> Shape adjective (shape)
Wooden table-->Material (or Type)

2. lovely, cane chair

Lovely--> Opinion
Cane, chair -->Material (or Type)

3. long-lasting, expensive, alkaline batteries / expensive, long-lasting, alkaline batteries
Long-lasting, expensive-->Opinion
Alkaline batteries-->Material (or Type)

Fewer, Less

Write an essay of not less than 350 words.
There are less pupil in this class.

The determiner less is wrongly used in the first two sentences above. Words and pupils are countable nouns and the correct determiner to use is fewer.

Write an essay of not fewer than 350 words.
