ATI Radeon 4870 1GB Review
 One of the chief advantages ATI’s Radeon 4870 and 4850 enjoy over competing GPUs from NVIDIA is their 8xAA performance. Both of these ATI cards scale ridiculously well when going from 4xAA to 8xAA; we’ve tested this extensively in multiple articles over the past few months and this is an advantage ATI has consistently maintained in all our testing. In our 216-core GeForce GTX 260 article we ran 8xAA benchmarks with multiple games. Take BioShock for instance, in this game the GeForce GTX 260 saw its performance drop 16% at 1920x1200. In Company of Heroes we saw an even greater drop of 23%. |
If Intel's worried about suppliers, so should the rest of IT
It's reached the point where I don't trust any of the big research houses to get it right when it comes to IT spending. Last month Forrester reduced its 2009 IT spending forecast while at the same time upping its projections for the remainder of this year. (I should add that Forrester issued its declaration just before the big financial meltdown got going in earnest.) Meanwhile, tech CEOs gathering this week at the Gartner Symposium ITXpo conclave in Orlando are moping around as they regale each other with ever more depressing tales from the trenches. New MacBook lineup vs. old MacBook lineup
The big news with Tuesday's MacBook announcement is obviously the new design. Replacing the white or black plastic chassis is an aluminum body built from a single piece of metal. Gone is the mouse button, consumed by a large glass trackpad with multitouch gesture support. The screen stays at 13.3 inches but gets LED backlighting and a piece of glass that runs from edge to edge of the laptop. And a mini DisplayPort makes an appearance, but it kicks the mini FireWire port to the curb in the process. |

The S10 is here, I ordered one yesterday and I'm psyched. The IdeaPad S10 is Lenovo's just-released entry in the Netbook market. "Netbook" is a new term that's applied to cheap small laptops that run either Windows XP Home Edition or Linux. No Vista or OS X here (neither is cheap). One reason Netbooks are cheap is that they are underpowered, by current standards. Yet, they have more than sufficient horsepower to do the things most people do most of the time. »»
