As part of its ongoing efforts to address the country’s growing demand for higher broadband connection speeds, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today launched two new offerings as follows:
• Carrier Class Metro Ethernet (METRO.e) service for businesses
• Streamyx 4.0Mbps broadband connection for consumers in selected areas of Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya

Dato’ Sri Dr. Lim Keng Yaik, Minister of Energy, Water and Communications launched these new offerings, witnessed by Dato’ Halim Shafie, Chairman, Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission, Tan Sri Dato’ Ir Md Radzi Mansor, Chairman of TM and Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) delegates. The launch was held in conjunction with the APT Policy & Regulatory Forum 2007 and World Telecommunication And Information Society Day, Malaysia 2007 with the theme ’Connecting The Young: The Opportunities Of ICT”.

Tan Sri Dato’ Ir Md Radzi Mansor said, “These new access service offerings from TM marks a milestone for Malaysian broadband. By offering these latest high-speed connectivity solutions, TM is continuing its support for the government’s initiative to provide Information and Communications Technology (ICT) accessibility to all, while increasing the uptake of broadband amongst the young as they will be the key contributors to our increasingly information and knowledge driven society”.

He added that this signifies the next major step in broadband services for the Malaysian market. This speed boost for businesses and consumers is timely as it caters to the new realities and latest trends of Internet usage and bandwidth demands in our market.

METRO.e Service

TM’s new METRO.e service for business offers high-speed connectivity access based on Carrier Class Ethernet industry standards across a Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) extending to multiple locations nationwide. The bandwidth is fully scalable from 4.0Mbps to 1Gbps, making it a compelling alternative for businesses that need robust secure high-speed connectivity. This solution supports traffic prioritisation with four classes of services offered: multimedia, mission critical, standard and economy data.

METRO.e promises guaranteed throughput speeds based on the bandwidth subscribed, so subscribers can rely on the sustained, reliable bandwidth to access large volumes of data and utilise bandwidth intensive applications. The four classes of service provide an option to customers to choose the most appropriate quality of service that best suit their requirements.

METRO.e is the most scalable transport technology as it makes use of the network topology’s versatility to provide flexible bandwidth upgrades as your business expands. Customers can start with the minimum of 4.0Mbps capacity and move up in 1.0Mbps increments as-and-when their business demand it. It is a cost-effective solution as METRO.e uses common enterprise IT infrastructure and resources. With bandwidth scalability, customers only pay for what their business need today.

METRO.e also offers a Service Level Guarantee (SLG) of up to 99.9%. This means that it is fully managed, monitored and supported 24 x 7 and 365 days by a team of qualified engineers from TM’s customer support centre - more than sufficient to run business and mission-critical applications and services.

METRO.e is a true converged network, which has the ability to carry all types of traffic for voice, video and data, making it a future-proof investment. It is protocol independent and widely available as the de facto enterprise LAN standard capable of supporting various types of business applications with its present network architecture.

Streamyx 4.0Mpbs

In just over a year, TM has doubled the speed of its Streamyx broadband offering as the existing Streamyx 2.0Mbps package was introduced in February 2006.
